Tips On Selecting Outfits For Your Family Photo Session

Camilla has put together some great tips to help you choose your outfits for your family photo session:

  • It can be hard to match a big variety of colors, so keep it simple and choose a maximum of 3 colors to coordinate in your selections.

  • Keep in mind the intensity and brightness of colors. If you choose pastel colors, keep them all pastel. If you choose bright tones, keep them all bright. This will make it easier for you to put the outfits together, especially if there are more than 2 family members to be photographed.

  • A light third wardrobe piece such as a cardigan, or shirt jacket, creates an interesting layer and adds dimension and texture to your photos.

  • Add even more creativity by choosing fewer colors, and mixing textures! Examples include cashmere and leather or wool and silk.

  • Classic solid colors such as navy blue, beige, gray, olive green, ochre yellow, and light pink have the power to give you a timeless look.

  • Color choice depends on season, colors in your home, and your photo shoot location.

  • Prints and patterns:

    • Go with the classics: stripes, polka dots, and florals.

    • Remember: vertical lines can give you height, horizontal stripes broaden.

    • Keep in mind the scale of the pattern. Something big on a kid can hide them behind the clothes.

Don’t forget...You can dress up, but remember to be true to yourself and each member of your family. Don't do your hair, make-up, and clothes as if you are somebody else, in a play or performance. The goal is to feel comfortable, and to have a fun memorable photo session!
