SCHOOL PICTURE DAY IS COMING UP!

Please read below for all important details to prepare for
your student’s picture day.

What are modern school portraits?
Not your average school photo….

I believe that the essence of a personality is rarely captured in a “cheese” smile. With a fun and relaxed approach to portraits, I am able to capture more natural expressions and true emotions of your child. They will be photographed on a classic grey background, allowing their personalities to shine.

These school photos are quick and low stress, lasting just a few minutes. I chat with them, telling jokes, and acting silly to help their personality and natural smile to shine. That being said, if you have a serious and contemplative child, I’ll photograph them in their natural state as well.

  • Not your average sibling photo shoot!

Do you often try to get wall worthy photos of your kids? They’re such treasures, and that makes this the perfect photo session for siblings! Plus, you’re already here and ready for photos!

Within a few minutes I’ll interact with your children, asking them fun facts about each other, and encourage their connection to shine, capturing the love, fun relationship, and unique dynamics between your kids. You’ll be able to see their special relationship and enjoy the photos for years to come. The sibling photos also coordinate well with their individual modern school portraits to make a modern and timeless wall gallery for your home and Grandparents too! To see more examples of sibling photos, and how they create amazing wall art, check out this blog post.

  • Here is a great resource about what to wear for picture day: Modern Portrait Wardrobe Guide. Siblings should coordinate but do not need to perfectly match.

Suggested not to wear: logos, large graphics, or text. Stay away from grey colored clothing as it will blend into the backdrop. Steer clear of solid fluorescent colored shirts as they will create strange color casts on skin.

To see how various colors photograph on the grey background, check out this collection of modern school portraits.

  • Be sure to let your child know school picture day is going to be FUN, and that they just need to be themself. Be sure to select a clean outfit, and perhaps send it to school to be changed into for pictures, depending on your child’s age and stage of development. Also, be sure to clean their eyes well before they leave the house to remove all those sleep goobers.

  • I believe that the essence of a personality is rarely captured in a “cheese” smile. With a quick, fun and relaxed approach to portraits, I am able to capture more natural expressions and emotions of your child.

I provide enough time for your child to become comfortable with me and the photography environment, and quickly put children at ease while never forcing them to pose or smile in a way that feels uncomfortable.

You can learn more about my background working with children HERE. Some kids are in the stranger danger phase, and photo day is stressful for them. In that case I’ll never force a child to take photos.

If it would help your child to ‘see’ me before picture day, please share the video on this page with them where I introduce myself.

  • Within two weeks of photo day, you will be emailed a link to a password protected proofing gallery. There will be ~2-5+ images of each student, edited in both color and black/white.

Since you know your child best, you can choose your favorite pose(s) to purchase as prints, canvases, and/or immediate digital downloads.

Can’t decide? The entire digital gallery is offered for purchase with every image included, as well as à la carte items and professional retouching.

The online ordering process is simple and secure. The gallery will be live for seven days. Once orders are placed, your print products will be delivered to your school within four weeks.

ALL ORDERS MUST BE PLACED IN THAT SEVEN DAY PERIOD.

*Your school staff will have access to student photos for internal use only.

  • Digital file purchases will be delivered immediately via email after the sale is processed. Be sure to download and archive your files right away.

Print products will be delivered to the school 2-4 weeks after the ordering deadline.

  • At various points in the fall and spring I offer a modern school portrait pop-up session. These are perfect for any child who doesn’t attend the preschool, and for sibling groups that aren’t all enrolled at the same school.

Click here to learn more about the next modern portrait pop-up event.

  • Feel free to email Rebecca@hunnicuttphotography with any school picture day and ordering related questions.

  • I aim to make this photo session as safe as possible for everyone. I am fully vaccinated, and if indicated/requested, I will wear a mask throughout the session, as well as maintain 6ft. of distance. The session will be conducted in a big white outdoor tent, or my home studio with plenty of ventilation. If any member of the photographers or students household is exposed to Covid-19 or suspected of being ill, the session will be rescheduled without penalty.

The biggest question..What to wear?

Solid colors photograph really well, and photos are taken from mid chest and up.
Avoid logos, large graphics, or text.
Stay away from grey colored clothing as it will blend into the backdrop.
Steer clear of solid bright fluorescent colored shirts
as they will create strange color casts on skin.

About The photographer

Working with kids is my superpower.
Not to toot my own horn…

Before I became a photographer, I was a pediatric nurse practitioner. That meant I had to learn how to work with kids in uncertain and sometimes scary situations. No one likes to be poked and prodded (especially kids). I learned to meet them where they’re at and build an honest rapport with them. Now, I bring that skill into every photo session.

When your kids trust the person behind the camera, it’s so much easier to get genuine laughs and smiles out of them. And when you see that your babies are happy and comfortable during your session, it means you can feel happy and comfortable, too. Learn more about your Pediatric-NP-turned photographer…

The part of parenting no one (okay, everyone) warned you about?
They grow EVERY single day.

(know what I mean?

It’s like…You look at pictures from a year ago and they’ve changed so much

You want to be able to remember all the little, funny phases they go through

You trust that the next stage will be good, but if you could push a button and hold onto this one for just a little longer…

Or even better:If you could rewind time and experience those baby snuggles over and over again, you wouldn’t hesitate

(science hasn’t gotten quite that far yet).

Life happens FAST

But with photos, you can hold onto what matters most
